Bahrain to host workshop on women’s empowerment indicators

A workshop that aims to identify the efforts made by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states to monitor and boost indicators of the participation of Gulf women in development will be held in Bahrain.

The two-day workshop “"a project to design an indicator of Gulf women’s participation in development" on Wednesday and Thursday at the Supreme Council for Women premises will also focus on monitoring indicators and goals and targets of sustainable development 2030 related to the empowerment of women in the GCC countries.

Coordination and cooperation to develop a unified strategy to design the indicators of GCC women's participation in development and reaching an agreement on the basic list of sub-indicators that will include calculating the Gulf index, and transferring the Bahraini experience to the Gulf states will also be on the agenda of the workshop.

Bahrain is regarded as an expert in women's affairs that has established a National Observatory to monitor gender indicators and reflect Bahraini women’s dedicated efforts and landmark achievements.

Participants in the workshop organized by the GCC Statistical Center in cooperation with Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority will review the facts about the participation of Gulf women in development and best practices in monitoring and measuring indicators of women's empowerment.

They will also discuss the methodology for designing indicators for Gulf women’s participation in development.
