Efforts to bolster women’s gains discussed


The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) has today hosted a coordination meeting at with the legislative branch of government at its headquarters in Riffa.

SCW Secretary-General Hala Al-Ansari chaired the session, which was attended also by representatives of the Shura Council, the Council of Representatives, the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, the Ministry of Labour and Social Development.

Officials representing the Economic Development Board (EDB), Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), the Bahrain Association of Banks, the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) and other private sector establishments also attended the meeting which focused on reviewing laws and stepping up cooperation to integrate women’s needs in development policies.

The meeting was followed the edict, which was issued by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and SCW President, establishing the Coordination Committee between the Supreme Council for Women and the Legislative Branch of Government.

The committee which features members of the Shura Council and the Council of Representatives, aims to strengthen cooperation to further integrate women’s needs through parliamentary tools.

Al-Ansari reiterated the SCW-keenness on the success of these policies to achieve balance between work and family life, develop the educational sector and activate flexible administrative systems which take into account women’s family commitments.

Representatives of the legislative branch of Government, the private sector and other concerned parties stressed the importance of consolidating women’s rights, underling the role of parliamentary tools in supporting the national efforts aimed at supporting Bahraini women.
