HRH Princess Sabeeka opens fish farm

Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector patronised the opening of the Dar Aqua Fish Farm in Hoorat A’ali.

She commended the importance of the project which contributes to supporting the National Food Security Strategy, in line with the royal directives to set up a project for national food production, including the allocation of several sites for fish farming and plant production.

She praised the private sector for supporting the strategy which considers fish farming as one of the sources to bridge the deficit between supply and demand in natural fish stocks.

She stressed Bahrain’s resolve to implement food security strategy by developing the agricultural sector through sustainable plans aimed to increase local production and the provision of adequate spaces for value-added projects that depend mainly on modern technologies.

HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa stressed the importance of enhancing awareness to optimize benefit from modern technologies in order to tackle challenges, such as land scarcity or climate fluctuations.

She toured the project and was briefed about the fish farm, praising the owners for the integration between fish farming and agricultural production by providing giant ponds that guarantee an increase in fish production of high quality.

She commended the installation of greenhouses using modern systems and technologies linked to the basins that work on the sustainability of agricultural production throughout the year to overcome the shortage in the local market.

She underlined plans in the coming period to encourage companies and major trading outlets to rely more on the local product in light of the quality the produce and the low cost of shipping and transportation.
