Council of Representatives, SCW discuss cooperation

Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, has stressed the importance of effective and constructive cooperation with the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) in order to advance Bahraini women in all fields, under the comprehensive development process, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Al Musallam commended the efforts of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to implement women-supporting public policies and programmes, affirming that Bahraini women have strengthened their role and partnership in the nation-building process thanks to their competence and distinction.

 

The Representatives Council's Speaker lauded the endeavours of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of HM the King and SCW President, to consolidate Bahraini women's leadership across various fields through pioneering national programmes and strategies in order to enhance their role and contributions, as well as achieve the goals of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women, and integrate their needs in the sustainable development process.

 

The Speaker made the statements while meeting here today Hala Mohammed Al Ansari, SCW Secretary-General and her accompanying delegation.

 

Al-Ansari stressed the need to enhance joint action between the SCW and the Council of Representatives to support Bahraini women's advancement and highlight their distinguished status, noting that the gains of Bahraini women under HM the King's comprehensive development process prove the success of the two councils' effective and serious partnership, emanating from the National Action Charter and the Constitution.

 

The SCW Secretary-General commended the role of the legislative branch as a main partner in implementing the National Gender Balance Model, and following up on the executive branch's performance regarding to the integration of women's needs in development, given the fact that the legislature is a partner and ally to the SCW in implementing the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women.

 

Al Ansari said that lawmakers should use the "Parliamentary Toolkit" on Mainstreaming the Needs of Bahraini Women in National Development, which is an important reference for all development sectors, as it measure the impact of Bahraini women's participation in them, stressing the importance of the role of the coordination committee between both councils in determine the priority laws that need to be reviewed or amended, within the framework of the ongoing cooperation between the two sides to integrate women's needs in development.

 

The delegations of the Council of Representatives and the SCW discussed joint cooperation, the programmes and projects of their coordination committee, as well as the legislative support for achieving the goals of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women and gender balance committees at the two councils.

 

They also discussed a draft project to activate the SCW's national model, as an integrated mechanism to follow up on, measure and assess the national efforts to achieve gender balance.
