HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim issues Decision (6) of 2025

Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), issued Decision (6) of 2025 to establish a women’s committee in the media sector.
This decision follows the SWC's meeting with media personnel in April to present the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women 2025 – 2026, reflecting recognition of the media’s growing role in highlighting Bahrain’s achievements and the progress of Bahraini women.
The decision outlines the women’s committee in the media sector’s objectives: examining Bahraini women’s status in the media, promoting their role as partners in national development, enhancing cooperation with media institutions, enhancing positive media portrayals of women, and empowering female media workers through leadership and skills development.
The committee’s responsibilities include examining the situation of women working in the media sector from legislative and regulatory perspectives to ensure equal opportunities and gender balance in specialised roles and media tasks. It will analyse media content concerning women’s representation in television programmes, drama, and across audio, print, visual, and social media platforms, providing recommendations as needed. Additionally, the committee aims to highlight Bahraini women’s positive image and contributions by showcasing success stories in both local and international media.
The committee is charged with proposing mechanisms for coordination and cooperation with media institutions to advance women’s role in the media sector. This includes recommending training, educational, and awareness programmes aimed at building the capacities and skills of female media workers and leaders. Furthermore, the committee will develop plans and strategies for engaging with various media outlets to promote the initiatives and programmes of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women.
Membership of the women’s committee in the media sector is determined for a renewable term of two years and includes individuals with expertise relevant to the committee’s work and specialisations. The formation of the committee members and the organisation of its work will be issued by a decision from the Secretary-General of the SWC.
