SCW signs MoU with Bahrain Women’s Union to enhance cooperation

The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) signed an MoU with the Bahrain Women's Union, to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the two parties.
Lulwa Saleh Al Awadhi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), conveyed the greetings of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the SCW, and Her Royal Highness’s ongoing interest in strengthening cooperation with civil society institutions concerned with women's affairs. She underscored that the relationship between the SCW and the Bahrain Women's Union is complementary in serving Bahraini women.
Al Awadhi emphasised that the signing of the MoU marks a new phase in activating cooperation and coordination between the SCW and the Union, which represents the umbrella body for women’s associations in the field of civil work. She noted the importance of establishing a joint committee between the SCW and the Union to follow up on the implementation of the MoU’s provisions.
She also highlighted that Her Royal Highness has approved the 2025–2026 National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women, which includes ongoing and new programmes and initiatives with public and private sector partners and civil society institutions. Details of the plan and its implementation will be announced soon, including areas of cooperation with civil society based on each party’s mandate.
On her part, Ahlam Ahmed Rajab, President of the Bahrain Women's Union, commended the support and care extended by Her Royal Highness, which reflects the leadership’s recognition of the role of Bahraini women. She also underlined the role of civil society institutions in the women’s movement, noting that more than 70 years have passed since the establishment of the first women’s association in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
She welcomed the signing of the MoU, underscoring the Union’s belief in complementarity between the public sector and civil society institutions to support and empower women. She noted that the Union will continue its efforts to help realise the SCW’s vision for advancing Bahraini women across all domains.
The MoU outlines cooperation in promoting the national model for integrating women’s needs and equal opportunities both locally and internationally, developing a supportive culture for women, sharing expertise, and collaborating in combating violence against women and offering family counselling services. It also includes the exchange of statistics, information, research, and studies in areas of common interest.
